In The Great Gatsby Mr. Scott compares the significance of old money versus new money. In our opinion the new money is represented by Jay Gatsby, which makes his living mostly off illegal under the table activities. In this category, it could be a variety of things including alcohol, drugs, and gambling.
On the other hand as Gatsby briefly describes through the story, Tom Buchanan is well-off because of his old money that he receive. When we say this we mean Tom is one of the many children or even child that receive money handed down from generation to generation.
In our opinion, we think that old money loses the human moral of striving to become rich or even to successfully conquer the American Dream. We say this because, it is easier for someone to get the American Dream with old money, than working hard to get it with new money. Even if the new money is fueled by illegal acts.
In the pictures below we showed the old money compared to the new money.
