Well in Great Gatsby we have constant comparison between East egg and West egg, we notice that East Egg is the city with aristocratic wealth were Daisy and Tom reside. West Egg is for the newly rich were Gatsby and Nick live. West egg is looked down on by the East Egg citizens because they share a different taste in areas of their lives.
Fitzgerald portrays West Egg people as gaudy, and lacking in the social graces. West Egg is the opposite and is portrayed as a place of great taste and elegance. This is a lot like society today we look at the negative areas not necessarily income, even though that comes into play, but we look at attitudes social status and look.
We see this throughout the novel and realize the conflict and it seems to be no different from today. I think its about keeping yourself humble so you don't look like a snotty East Egg er and simply separate yourself from the rest of society. I hope that we can look at each other in Love and not in worldly things.
